Breathwork Preparation

Three foundational breath techniques that prepare the body, nervous system, and voice for deep ceremonial and frequency work. The breath is not preparation — the breath is the practice.

The Three Techniques

Before any ceremony, sound healing session, or frequency work — the breath must be activated. These three techniques form the foundation of all breathwork within The Frequency Academy.

TECHNIQUE 01
Grounding Breath
4 count inhale through the nose. 2 count hold. 8 count exhale through the nose. Activates the parasympathetic nervous system.
Through Nose
TECHNIQUE 02
Birthing Breath
Full inhale through the mouth. Extended exhale through the mouth with sound. Releases stored tension and emotion from the body.
Through Mouth
TECHNIQUE 03
Holotropic Breath
3-part continuous breath through the mouth. Belly, chest, release. Builds energy and accesses altered states of consciousness.
3-Part Mouth

When to Use Each Technique

Grounding Breath — Use before meditation, sound healing, or anytime you need to drop into presence. Works through the nose to activate the parasympathetic system. This is your daily foundation breath.

Birthing Breath — Use when you feel emotional constriction, stuck energy, or need to move something through the body. The mouth-to-mouth pattern bypasses mental resistance and accesses the body's natural release mechanisms.

Holotropic Breath — Use in dedicated ceremonial sessions only. Not a casual practice. The 3-part continuous breath builds significant energy in the body and can produce altered states. Always have a resting period afterward. Contraindicated for pregnancy, heart conditions, and epilepsy.

Reflection

Which of the three techniques felt most natural to you? Which felt most challenging and why?

Where do you carry tension in your body most frequently? How did the breath interact with those areas?

Which technique will you commit to practicing daily before your frequency work? What time of day?
